SS 317/317L Buttweld Fittings have 18–20% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 3–4% molybdenum, with the “L“ type having lower carbon content for improved weldability. They offer tensile strength up to 515 MPa, yield strength approximately 205 MPa, and high ductility with 35% elongation. The presence of added molybdenum increases pitting and crevice corrosion resistance, particularly in environments with chlorides. 317L does not lose any of its strength and corrosion resistance upon welding, making it the best for fabricated systems. These fittings remain mechanically strong in both high-temperature and high-pressure usage.
